WRONG NUMBER

‘I’ve only been here for a short time but it feels longer’ Jessica

thought to herself as she walked around her apartment with tiny steps and a

bewildering look.

She moved into the loft apartment in Pasadena, CA two weeks ago.

It fits her so well: roomy and cozy, at the same time.

Stepping into the apartment from the front door, one can’t help

notice the beautiful polished hardwood floor, looking up at the vaulted ceilings

and eying the modern furniture, which gives the place, an artsy feel.

Along the high framed window, with its’ back sturdy against the

wall is a beautiful puffy white couch. Not two feet from the matching arm chair

to its’ left is the kitchen. It’s small with a stainless steel sink, a gas stove, white

refrigerator decorated with magnets saying ‘Have a nice day’ on its’ door, oak

cabinets and utensils such as a spatula, tongs, grater, etc. all hang from hooks that

are on an accompanying oak platform.

Kitty corner from the kitchen is a small entertainment center.

It consists of a 13-inch screen TV with a hanging ivy plant sitting on top and a

VCR nestled underneath. They are both embodied in a black wiry framed three

shelved platform cabinet.

The place has plain blue velvet swivel chairs throughout.

Up the stairs lies the 2nd floor, which is covered with pieces of

bedroom furniture and an adjoining bathroom.

The bedroom consists of 3 pieces of furniture: bed, nightstand and

dresser. The bed, a queen, is covered with an emerald and black comforter

with matching pillows, the nightstand next to it is made of oak and stores

magazines and suspense novels in the opened space below; the dresser

was originally an off pink but has now been given a new paint job of the

color mauve.

Her bathroom is white tiled with emerald green bathmats and

matching towels.

Jessica Montrose is a young Caucasian twenty four year old girl.

She stands at 5’5. Her thick sandy brown hair has a left part and glides

straight down the sides of her rounded face. Her dark brown eyebrows

stand out against her fair skin and her big round green eyes squint as she

smiles. Her round button nose, thin lips carry the rest of her facial

features. She is OK with her full figured frame but would like to lose a few

pounds. She comes from a close-knit family of four brothers and 1 sister

and she enjoys reading suspense novels, shopping and watching ‘Lifetime

for women’ movies.

Jessica works for ‘Raining Cats and Dogs’ animal clinic as a front

office assistant. She loves her job and has been there for the past 3 years. She has

everything she wants except the love from her soul mate, which she has yet to

meet.

Emilio George is a Hispanic 24 year old guy who is very romantic on

the inside but doesn’t show it on the outside. He lives with his 30-year-old

brother, Rich. Their apartment is definitely a guys-guy kind of place. It has a

huge entertainment center which includes a big screen TV with cable (have to

have the sports channel), VCR, movies that have Tom Cruise and other rugged

men in them sitting next to the TV and a brown leather couch against the wall.

The apartment is not spacious but just enough for 2 people to move around in.

Rich’s bedroom only contains a bed, dresser and nightstand. He

works for a contact lens company as a researcher so he is rarely home long

enough to shower eat and catch a few hours sleep.

Emilio’s bedroom has posters of his favorite bands scattered

alongside his wall, a king size bed with a racing car comforter, an olive green

dresser and walk in closet.

Emilio George stands at 5’6, medium built and of Spanish descent.

He thinks his best feature is his short black wavy hair that sits closely nestled on

top of his head. He likes the way he doesn’t have to fuss over it. But he has been

told that his eyes are his best feature. They have been addressed to him as

expressive, romantic and soothing. The bridge of his nose is long and narrow.

His lips are full with a rosy color to them. His family is not that close and he only

has one sibling, Rich. His hobbies are sports that he watches and reading poetry.

Emilio works for ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ travel agency. He enjoys

working in that type of environment because it gives him the opportunity to

research places that he would like to go but can’t afford to right now.

One day, mid-afternoon in early November, Emilio called, what he

thought was his client from his desk at the agency. But it was a wrong number

that would forever change his life.

Hello?” she asked as she picked up her royal blue cordless phone.

Hi, Kathy. It’s Emilio from ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ agency. How are you

doing?”

I’m not Kathy” Melissa said with concern in her voice.

Sorry about disturbing you. Have a nice day” Emilio said and hung

up the phone.

He shook his head and put his hand on his forehead in an attempt to

say ‘I’m so stupid.’ Then he tried the number that his client, Kathy, gave him

again.

Kathy?” he questioned.

She giggled and said “Are you sure you are dialing the right number or

are you looking for a date?”

This is not Kathy is it?” he asked while trying not to let the sound of

frustration be recognized by her.

No, it’s not. But you have a nice voice.” “Thank you. So do you. I

really like talking to you and don’t really want to go back to doing my job. Can I

really call you sometime?” He doesn’t know why he held his breath for her

answer, but he did.

“Sure, why not” Melissa told him while looking outside her front

room window.

“Cool. What is your name?” “Melissa” she snickered. “I already
