Tied In: The Business, History and Craft of Media Tie-In Writing | by Lee Goldberg Jul. 18, 2010 | $2.99 | 74723 words | Sample 25% |
| Author bio: Lee Goldberg is an ex-Navy SEAL, freelance Sexual Surrogate and a professional Pierce Brosnan impersonator. Okay, that's not true. But he wants this biography to be really exciting, so pay attention. If things bog down, I've been instructed to add a car chase or some explicit sex. Here's the real story. Lee Goldberg writes books and television shows. His mother wanted him to be a doctor, and his grandfather wanted him to go into the family furniture business. Instead, he put himself through UCLA as a freelance journalist, writing for such publications as American Film, Starlog, Newsweek, The Los Angeles Times Syndicate, The Washington Post and The San Francisco Chronicle (He also wrote erotic letters to the editor for Playgirl at $25-a-letter, but he doesn't tell people about that, he just likes to boast about those "tiffany" credits. He published his first book ".357 Vigilante" (as "Ian Ludlow," so he'd be on the shelf next to Robert Ludlum) while he was still a UCLA student. The West Coast Review of Books called his debut "as stunning as the report of a .357 Magnum, a dynamic premiere effort," singling the book out as "The Best New Paperback Series" of the year. Naturally, the publisher promptly went bankrupt and he never saw a dime in royalties. Welcome to publishing, Lee. (The books are published in Smashwords editions that have been retitled as "Judgment," "Adjourned," "Payback," and "Guilty") His subsequent books include the non-fiction books "Successful Television Writing" and "Unsold Television Pilots" ("The Best Bathroom Reading Ever!" San Francisco Chronicle) as well as the novels "My Gun Has Bullets" ("It will make you cackle like a sitcom laugh track," Entertainment Weekly), "Dead Space" aka "Beyond the Beyond" ("Outrageously entertaining," Kirkus Reviews), "The Man With The Iron-On Badge" ("As dark and twisted as anything Hammett or Chandler ever dreamed up...leaving Travis McGee in the dust" Kirkus Reviews), the "Diagnosis Murder" novels ("With books this good, who needs TV?" Chicago Tribune) and the "Monk" series of original novels. "Take me now," she moaned, "you hot writer stud." She tore off her clothes and tackled him onto the floor, unable to control her raging lust. Nothing excited her more than being around a writer with a big list of books. Got your attention again? Good. I don't know about you, but I was starting to nod off. Where was I? Oh yes... Goldberg broke into television with a freelance script sale to Spenser: For Hire. Since then, his TV writing & producing credits have covered a wide variety of genres, including sci-fi (SeaQuest), cop shows (Hunter), martial arts (Martial Law), whodunits (Diagnosis Murder, Nero Wolfe), the occult (She-Wolf of London), kid's shows (R.L. Stine's The Nightmare Room), T&A (Baywatch), comedy (Monk) and utter crap (The Highwayman). But perhaps he's best known for his pioneering work mapping the human genome and negotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement. Goldberg lives in Los Angeles with his wife Valerie and his daugher Madison. |

Horoscope in Your Hands | by Phoebe Matthews Jul. 12, 2010 | $2.99 | 6413 words | Sample 20% |

Her urban fantasy series, Mudflat, uses that background and is set in the Seattle area where she lives. Three Mudflat books were EPIC finalists. Book 1, Tarbaby Trouble, won the EPIC for Best Fantasy of 2009. Contemporary fantasy is Phoebe’s favorite reading. She admires superheroes who save the universe or the planet or at least the whole nation, but admits her own world is much smaller. And so she writes about people with limited powers who have only their wits and courage between themselves and destruction. In Phoebe’s new Turning Vampire series for Dark Quest the gutsy heroine’s powers are in the minus range. |

Origami Jungle Birds | by John Montroll Jun. 18, 2010 | $4.99 | 432 words | Sample 30% |
| Author bio: I started origami when I was six years old. Even then I enjoyed making my own animals. At the time the typical method was to fold animals from two sheets of paper, or cut the paper, or use any shape paper. As a child I thought it was cheating to not use a single uncut square for origami. Throughout the years I continued to develop and refine my style and techniques. When my first book was published in 1980, “Origami for the Enthusiast”, it was the first origami book where all the models were each folded from a single uncut square. This influenced folders and designers around the world, starting a new movement. Also in my first book, I introduced the origami term "double rabbit ear fold". |

Samuel Clemente Presents: A Guide to NYC (Comedic Essays) | by Samuel Clemente May. 24, 2010 | $0.99 | 13079 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: Allow me to formally introduce myself. My name is Samuel Clemente. I was born and raised in the city of New York. More specifically in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Before observant readers accuse me of being rich, I'd like to point out that: I only had one maid growing up, but my mother hates it when I call her that. I should also specify that I am of Dominican descent. Some readers may be asking "What part of Mexico is that in?" To those readers I answer "uhh... South." Much of my early youth was spent standing next to microwave ovens, in the off chance that the radiation would give me super powers. Aside from my uncontrollable twitch, this experiment was a failure. The majority of my teenage years were spent pondering the mysteries of the world. Mysteries such as: If cavemen didn't have sofas and they only sat on rocks; does that mean that Hispanic cavemen sat on rocks covered in plastic? After spending some time being beaten up by the local neighborhood bully, a name my mother also hates being called, I attended a state university. The next seven years are a giant blur. Eventually I would return to Brooklyn, where in I decided to use the 80 pages of "comedic" material I wrote while digging through cow feces, for the goal of one day being able to write numerous ebooks. Some people may ask "why ebooks?": It's quite simple. It should come as no surprise that the main reason authors write books is to go on book tours. At these book tours authors are asked to sign either copies of their books or if they're lucky, breasts. By writing an ebook I have eliminated the physical product and therefore maximized my breasts signing opportunities. Some readers may attempt to defeat this brilliant strategic maneuver by asking that printed copies of the ebook be signed; I will promptly draw signed breasts on these printed copies. |

Colonial Gothic: The Landlord's Daughter | by Rogue Games Apr. 12, 2010 | $0.99 | 22853 words | Sample 50% |
| Author bio: The Rogues Games. That is what it is all about. For as long as they can remember Richard Iorio II and James Maliszewski have enjoyed not only playing, but designing games. Rogue Games is their company, and with it they design and produce games. So who are these two Rogues? Read on. Richard Iorio II Born in Connecticut, Richard has lived in such far flung and exotic locales as Pocatello, Idaho and Mauston, Wisconsin. Richard was once a librarian, and has come a long way from the days when he was the librarian for Harley-Davidson. He spent the first part of his career as a law librarian and worked for two Chicago law firms where he learned a lot about law and law firm culture. This is what drove him to the halls of academia. It was academia which drove him out of the profession, and he now works in marketing research for a magazine publisher. Since 1996 Richard has been a freelance writer and designer and has written for Atlas Games, Guardians of Order, Hogshead Publishing, and Zeitgeist Games (just to name a few). In addition he designed two card games (Geek Wars: Battle for the Con and World Championship Dodge Ball) for Goodman Games. In 2007 Richard co-founded Rogue Games with James Maliszewski, and this was the best decision he ever made. Since then he has had more fun then he can remember. Currently living in Chicago, Illinois with his wife, cat and library of books, Richard is busy working on the historical supernatural horror game Colonial Gothic, Ninja, and a few other projects he is working on with James. When not writing in the third-person Richard loves to cook, ride his bike, read, study and play games. James Maliszewski Born in the Netherlands, and growing up in Baltimore, James attended university in Annapolis, Washington, D.C., and Toronto. Originally he believed his calling was to teach the world about the wonders of medieval and early modern philosophy, but soon realized he could just as readily be ignored by working in the roleplaying games industry—and have more fun in the process. Since 1999, he has contributed to many gaming products, most notably various d20 lines (including Star Wars and Iron Kingdoms), the Dark Ages lines, Exalted, Fading Suns, Gear Krieg the Roleplaying Game, and Hunter: The Reckoning. He currently lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with his wife, two children, and a Captain Kirk action figure, and is hard at work on Fourth Millennium: Future Imperfect, Thousand Suns and a few other projects he is working on with Richard. |

Zero-Memorization Deck | by Andrew Mayne Apr. 02, 2010 | $2.99 | 3350 words | Sample 15% |
| Author bio: He's made ghosts appear on the screens of borrowed cell phones. He can shove his hand through a living human's chest, seemingly breaking the skin yet leaving them unscathed. He's even made a town think they were being besieged by UFOs. He's a magician, a paranormal illusionist, an inventor and an unapologetic prankster. He's been one of magic's best kept secret. Andrew Mayne started off on a promising career in magic as a teenager when he became the second youngest illusionist to ever embark on a world tour (The first one being another upstart by the name of David Copperfield). During his tour he performed in resorts, on luxury liners and exotic locales around the world. Five years later, at the ripe old age of twenty-three, he decided it was time for a career change. Bored with putting beautiful girls into boxes only to be cut in half, the sequins and the other clichéd trappings of magic, Andrew decided to call it quits on anything that was beginning to look like a normal career in magic. Although an established performer at the top of his career, there wasn't a place for the kind of magic Andrew really wanted to perform. To his booking agent's chagrin, he decided to delve behind the scenes and see what kind of boundaries he could push. At first through word of mouth, then through books and DVDs, Andrew's unique ideas began to spread throughout the magic community. David Blaine, Penn & Teller and others all sought out Andrew for his radical ideas on magic. He became know as a magician's magician. From figuring out the right way to levitate on a crowded street, to inventing a means for an astronaut in space to choose the same card as a magician on earth, Andrew became the go-to-guy for the impossible. His creations began popping up on television specials and stages around the world. Aspiring young magicians who dubbed themselves "Mayniacs" devoured his material and began inflicting Andrew's style of shock magic on an unsuspecting public. People around the world were being exposed to Andrew's wicked approach to magic. Today, with over 36 published books, DVDs and effects, Andrew is widely considered one of the most creative magicians of his generation. Unique for a magician, besides being both a creator and a performer, his creative repertoire stretches from both intimate close-up magic to grand illusion. In 2007 Andrew launched iTricks.com the top daily news source for magic and iTricks.TV, a daily magic video channel. Beyond magic, he's a partner in Jaras/Mayne Productions which recently produced G4 Underground for the G4 network. |
